Mother: Frances Jane Smiley Ball (1862 - 1937)

Vivian was educated at Camden Superior Public School. Prior to enlistment he had been 2nd Lieutenant and Drill Instructor of Senior Cadets. His parents were living in Camden at the time of his enlistment.

He was cousin to Lieutenant-Colonel Cameron DSO and bar and to Lieutenant A.R.V. Stafford M.M.

Vivian gave his occupation as Organist and Music Teacher and he was also a Scout Master when he enlisted in Camden and served in the 54th Battalion A.I.F. He departed Australia aboard 'Euripides' on 31 October 1917.

Private Vivian Charles GARDNER died of wounds at Rouen in France on 19 Apr 1918 age 22.
